Love Comes From Vulnerability: A Short Story Collection
"The Habit of Love" a collection of short stories by Writer and novelist Namita Gokhale which was released by Penguin India in 2012 portrays the feminine life style and will take the readers through emotions, sorrow and motherhood.
The short stories in “The Habit of Love” speak in a contemporary voice about a woman's need to love across the centuries rather than the substance of love. The story pictures Women’s passionate love, deep love and often angry love. The Real love which is not a dominant feature or not about sexual triumph is clearly drawn out in the stories.
The stories in the collection of "The Habit of Love" are written over a period and the first story was written 20 years ago. The first story is 'Omens Sacred and Profane' was written in a Kathmandu hotel room by Namita Gokhale to include in an anthology of Jeet Thayil. The stories develops around the inside lives of women which contains anxiety, regret and real love.
One of the stories "Omens 1" is about a lonely "literary lady" Vatsala Vidyarthi who works for advertising company and tells about the faith and trust.
Another story "Hamsdhwani" is about a golden-winged swan telling the Mahabharata story of star-crossed lovers Nala and Damayanti.
The collection got its title "The Habit of Love" which was written for an Italian publication about the life of a widowed mother of two daughters living in Kathmandu and her sorrows.
The author Gokhale is an active partner for several global projects for promoting Indian writing to global. She is now working on a new novel named "Things to Leave Behind".
